DCFOF offers internship and practicum opportunities across a variety of programs and professional disciplines supporting survivors, families, and the Denton County community.

Why Intern with DCFOF?

Gain experience working with trauma survivors and/or individuals who have caused harm. Opportunities may be tailored to support professional interests and provide a diversity of experience.
Support educators working with CPS-referred parents, assist inside and outside of classes, maintain records, and help develop curriculum.
Provide outreach and advocacy to victim partners, assess service needs, complete referrals, and observe BIPP group sessions.
Assist with groups for individuals who have used intimate partner violence, participate in individual and group supervision, support orientation and intake sessions, and maintain client documentation.
Support survivors in identifying needs and goals, navigating resources, accessing community services, completing documentation, and working toward greater safety, stability, and self-sufficiency.

Support Camp HOPE and Child Shelter Advocacy programs through event coordination, community partnerships, case management support, school enrollment, children’s activities, documentation, and other services for children and families.
Support community and criminal justice outreach efforts and assist with the preparation and delivery of presentations and trainings.
Support survivors accessing crisis services through intakes, crisis intervention, resource navigation, safety planning, documentation, and connection to ongoing DCFOF services.
Assist clients with accessing food and basic-needs resources, provide individualized resource navigation, support food pantry services, and help connect survivors with community-based assistance.
Support high-risk survivors through resource navigation, safety planning, follow-up, documentation, and coordination with DCFOF staff and community partners.

Assess safety of clients, connect clients to appropriate and available resources, complete victim intake, and more.
Support volunteer and in-kind donation management, special events, fundraising activities, and donor care.
Support DCFOF’s day-to-day operations and special projects through administrative assistance, data and documentation, research, event support, and cross-department initiatives.

Gain experience supporting children and adolescents impacted by domestic violence or sexual assault through play therapy services.
Respond to Survivor Advocacy Team calls at local hospitals and police departments; conduct intakes, provide crisis intervention, assist with documentation, and support survivors following a crisis; and participate in community outreach.
Support shelter clients through advocacy, court accompaniment, crisis line response, shelter intakes, and other direct services.
Support the development, coordination, and delivery of internal staff training and external community education through research, training materials, scheduling, participant engagement, and evaluation.

Assess client safety and housing needs, connect clients with appropriate resources, and support survivors working toward long-term housing stability.
